Ride Like a Girl's board members are all avid mountain bikers committed to encouraging the growth of female participation in the sport. The board has a range of professionals involved in the mountain bike industry as coaches, athletes and mentors.
Ride Like a Girl is a BC based not-for-profit that provides a mentorship and bursary program designed to support young female mountain bike athletes to develop their talent.
We support girls in British Columbia who are up to the age of 20 years old and are currently racing cross-country, downhill or enduro mountain biking or who are honing their skills as a freeride athlete. Our mentorship program provides opportunities for young athletes to ride with and receive guidance from professional female athletes in their discipline. In 2017 we will be matching six young female riders with mentors. Where funds permit we also offer bursaries to assist with race/event expenses.
Encourage female riders to develop their talent
We''d like to see female riders receive the support they need to develop their cycling talents to take competing to the next level provincially, nationally and internationally.
Support young females pursuing competitive cycling
The number of female mountain bike racers is still much lower than the number of males. We'd like to see this change and more girls pursue racing and participate in events.
Develop community ambassadors
Our programs encourage young riders to get involved in the cycling community and give-back through coaching, leading rides, helping with trail maintenance and more!
Encourage healthy, active living
Sports and fitness are key to a healthy lifestyle. Mountain biking provides an opportunity to encourage girls to be active throughout their life.
Contribute to the growth of mountain biking
The number of people mountain biking has grown in recent years. We'd like to see this continue with more females pursuing the sport.
