Tanya grew up in New Zealand but was first introduced to mountain biking in the early 90's by her ski buddies in Rossland, BC. Despite walking away black and blue on her first day, she was instantly hooked and mountain biking became her new passion. She took up cross country racing and raced in NZ and Canada, and was a member of the NZ cross country mountain bike team. She started coaching in 1999, and after retiring from racing in 2003 was able to focus more time on helping others learn to ride. She has been an instructor with the Trek Dirt Series since 2003, and over the summer travels back and forth between her home base of Campbell River and Whistler, where she instructs both women's only and co-Ed camps.
Tanya would love to see more girls racing bikes, no matter what the discipline. She is excited to share her experience as a racer and coach as part of the Ride Like a Girl program.
When not riding her bike Tanya works as a Registered Dental Hygienist and also holds a Certificate in Exercise Science and a Diploma in Adult Education. Her other athletic pursuits include alpine and nordic skiing, trail running, and acroyoga.
