Athlete match: Maille MacPherson
Hi, I'm Holly! I'm a cyclist and coach from Victoria, BC, Canada. I began my career as a triathlete, racing at the junior elite and elite levels internationally, before switching to full-time cycling in 2018. I raced professionally on the road and cyclocross circuits with InstaFund Pro Cycling. While racing for InstaFund, I competed with my teammates on the road across North America and Europe. On the cyclocross bike, I love the local cycling scene with the Cross on the Rock series. One of my favourite racing experiences was getting to race and finish on the podium at home in Victoria for Cyclocross National Championships in 2022.
After 3 years away from racing while recovering from an injury, I competed in my first event this past February at the Belgian Waffle Ride in Arizona. It was an extremely challenging experience but I was happy to finish in 5th on the day and am looking forward to continuing to build for more to come this season.
During my time away from racing, I discovered my passion for coaching. Over the past three years I have been working to building my coaching business and have had the pleasure to work with many determined and talented athletes. I work with a wide range of cyclists and triathletes, but my primary focus is with the development athletes hoping to make it to the professional level.
I have also just returned to school this past year to pursue a Master's in High Performance Coaching at UBC. I currently have an undergraduate degree in Biology and Psychology with a focus in neurobiology, which has influenced my approach to performance and athlete development. So far the program has been extremely valuable in my development as a coach and I hope to continue to grow alongside my athletes.
I'm very excited to join the Ride Like a Girl Mentorship team again and help guide and motivate young riders to achieve their goals!
Is there anything in this upcoming season you are especially excited about?
I am very excited to return to more racing this season, primarily on the gravel bike! I am also excited to lead the Cycling BC High Performance Team at several projects and stage races this summer and fall.
