Athlete match: Ocea Fawkes
I grew up on a farm in New Zealand and once I had finished my post secondary education I swiftly moved to the mountains of Canada in my early twenties to ski. When the ski season ended in the mountains, naturally it was time to master another sport–mountian biking. After some time exploring the BC interior I made a move to the Island with its year round biking.
I started in the south in Victoria with its rocky crazy hard trails of hartland. While I was there I took the plunge and got my PMBI level 1 and started instructing mountain biking and sharing the skills and joy of mountain biking. I met a wonderful community racing cyclocross and Enduro that inspired me to compete and explore the wonderful trail systems all over Vancouver island. That community of racers and families are still keeping me energized for getting out to a race or two but simply getting out on my bike with friends or some young shredders is where my focus is these days.
Now calling Cumberland home and working in the bike industry during the day and instructing mountain biking in my spare time. My life could not be any better filled with so much biking.
I'm excited to be a mentor and help the next generation be inspired and have the confidence to get out and develop their skills and have tons of fun while doing so.
