Karaleen Gioia

Athlete match: Kirra Whitehead

Karaleen has been interested in competition & coaching from a young age.  She was in competitive Highland dancing as a kid and became a ski instructor by the time she was 17.  Karaleen continued to teach skiing while achieving her BSc. She then transitioned to working in the Marine Industry as the only woman ASD Tug Captain on the BC Coast and has been assisting with the training of upcoming Captains.

When Karaleen was 30, she discovered mountain biking and was immediately taken.  Mountain biking has become a true passion and Karaleen has enjoyed many disciplines of the sport including Freeride, Indoor 4X, DH & Enduro racing (both locally and internationally), and trail building.  Karaleen has also been a director of her local trail organization, TORCA, for 10 years; currently sitting as President.  In this position, she has been working to create opportunities for the community to enjoy the sport of mountain biking and the beautiful trails on which we ride, including organizing the local Enduro race series and leading Youth Group Rides. Being part of Ride Like a Girl is another amazing chance to share the love of mountain biking & competition with the next generation.

Some of Karaleen’s accomplishments include:

Past Masters Indoor 4X Champion
Multiple time Masters DH Provincial Champion
Past Masters DH Canadian Champion
2019 Masters DH World Champion
